Highway Crash Barriers fall into four broad families: flexible metal beam systems, semi-rigid metal beam systems, rigid concrete systems, and wire rope safety fence systems. Each performs differently under impact and suits different highway conditions.
Flexible W Beam Crash Barrier: the workhorse of Indian highways. Absorbs energy through controlled deflection. Easy to repair, widely available, and cost-effective. Best for divided carriageway medians and edges with moderate fall heights.
Semi-rigid Thrie Beam Crash Barrier: stiffer than W Beam, higher containment, preferred at bridge approaches, sharp curves, hill roads, and expressways with significant heavy vehicle traffic.
Rigid Concrete Crash Barrier (Jersey, F-shape, single-slope): minimal deflection, very high containment, virtually maintenance-free. Used on narrow medians, urban expressways, tunnel approaches and any location where deflection space is limited.
Wire Rope Safety Fence: tensioned steel cables on flexible posts. Forgiving impact behaviour for motorcycles and light vehicles, but requires more roadside width. Suited to gentle alignments with limited heavy traffic.
Auroguard manufactures and supplies W Beam, Thrie Beam, Metal Beam and Highway Crash Barrier systems for the full range of Indian highway conditions. Talk to our desk about your project alignment and traffic mix — we will recommend the right barrier type for the right stretch.
